Alice Collignon, a doctoral student at the University of Liège’s Faculty of Medicine, won the Belgian final of the “My Thesis in 180 seconds” inter-university competition on Friday evening, Belga News Agency reports.
This was the eighth edition of the competition and Collington was one of 15 finalists from universities in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation: Louvain-la-Neuve, Liège, Mons, Namur and Brussels. All the participants have doctorates.
The competition requires contestants to present their theses – documents that are often hundreds of pages long and comprising years of data and research – in just three minutes, making sure to render their research understandable to listeners.
Alice Collignon will represent Belgium at the international French-language final of the competition, to be held on 6 October in Montreal, Canada.
The jury was comprised of professors from UNamur, Université Catholique de Louvain, and Université Libre de Bruxelles as well as an RTBF presenter and YouTuber.
The public’s prize was awarded to Joëlle Giroud of the Faculty of Science of the University of Namur.
