The Federation of Belgian Taxis (FeBeT) has called for the deadline for the transition to zero emission taxis to be delayed to 2030, BX1 reported on Friday.
In an email to the Brussels-Capital Region Government, the FeBeT explained the sector needs more time to develop infrastructures needed for the transition. The FeBeT highlighted a series of obstacles in achieving the original 2025 deadline, including the lack of suitable cars.
In 2022, the Brussels Region set out to tackle pollution from the sector by launching a measure that requires new taxis to be zero emission vehicles. The measure is set to be enforced from 1 January 2025.
The taxi federation is asking for the new deadline to be pushed to 2030, giving the sector time to adapt to the requirements.
