Dutch artist Joost Klein – who was disqualified from Eurovision – will perform in Belgium several times this summer, the first of which will be at the Genk on Stage festival. As the organisers expect a big turnout, they have taken extra precautions.
Klein will perform in Genk (Limburg province) on Saturday 29 June at Genk on Stage – a free city festival that is currently in full preparation, coordinator Mathies Wouters told Het Nieuwsblad.
"It will be Klein's only performance in Limburg and the first in Belgium," he said. "We have been aware of his popularity for a long time and his participation in the Eurovision Song Contest will only provide a boost."
Following his participation – and controversial disqualification – in the Song Contest, Klein's song 'Europapa' became immensely popular and broke the Netherlands' streaming records, while also featuring in the worldwide Top 25 most-streamed songs on Spotify.
Therefore, the festival will expand its site with an additional 4,000 places, making room for a total of approximately 11,000 visitors in front of the stage. More emergency exits are also being created.
"The security services will also operate at maximum capacity so it remains safe and pleasant for everyone on the site," Wouters said. "For the biggest fans, I still recommend arriving on time because it is going to be very crowded."
This summer, Joost Klein will also perform in Belgium at Moenfeest (6 July), Rock Zottegem (12 July), Het Groot Verlof (26 July), Suikerrock (2 August), Lokerse Feesten (11 August) and Rijvers Festival (18 August).
