Building sites across Belgium are set to open their doors to the public this Sunday.

The open house event, known as 'Journée Chantiers Ouverts' ('Open Construction Day'), aims to engage visitors in the inner workings of building and infrastructure design that form part of their daily lives. The event will underscore the potential for innovation within the construction industry, particularly in relation to environmental matters.

A diverse range of sites will be accessible free of charge, from a new sewage treatment plant in Visé to the Royer lock renovations in Antwerp, as well as various residential developments. Visit slots will be available for booking between 10:00 and 17:00, some of which provide guided tours. Additionally, some sites will offer virtual tours.

The complete list of sites open for tours this Sunday can be found on the official website.

Embuild, the federation responsible for organising the event, intends to highlight the affordability and sustainability of housing, public sector investment and job opportunities within the construction industry.

"The building and installation sector plays a critical role in climate transition, refurbishing our infrastructure, creating attractive jobs, and prosperity. But we need the necessary support," Embuild stated.
