More than 150 ships at the Ostend at Anchor festival

The Ostend at Anchor maritime festival kicked off in the seaside town on Thursday, promising a weekend filled with “sea discoveries” and expecting to draw 200,000 visitors from across Europe.

The some 150 vessels participating in the festival - from tall, majestic ships to small sloops - will captivate sailing enthusiasts, whether they choose to embark on a sea voyage or prefer to stay on dry land.

On land, around 20 music acts will perform over the four-day festival, delighting music lovers, while some 40 artists and craftsmen share their skills with the curious. Food lovers will be enticed by the array of tasting stalls on offer.

Activities for younger attendees are also planned, including a treasure hunt, rescue-technique demonstrations, storytelling sessions, and even a shrimp-peeling competition.

Finally, the Blue Innovation Village will deliver information on the latest developments and innovations surrounding the North Sea.
