One person was injured in a fire that broke out on Monday evening in Avernas-le-Bauduin, in the Hannut district of the province of Liège, the Hesbaye emergency services said on Tuesday morning. Several buildings were damaged.
Around 20 Hesbaye firefighters were called out at around 23:30 on Monday evening to Rue de Grand-Hallet in Avernas. A major garage fire had just broken out. The fire then spread to an annex and two adjacent buildings, which suffered roof damage.
"Several ignited gas bottles were discovered inside, making the operation particularly delicate," said the spokeperson for the emergency services.
A resident of the premises was injured and treated by the paramedics. The victim, who had attempted to extinguish the fire, is not in life-threatening condition. The accidental cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
