The right-wing conservative European People’s Party (EPP) is projected to remain the largest political group in the European Parliament, with 181 out of 720 seats, according to an initial seat allocation prognosis disseminated by the European Parliament.

The EPP is the party of Germany’s Ursula von der Leyen, the current President of the European Commission, who is seeking "re-election", despite not actually running as a candidate in the European Parliament, like in 2019.

The social democratic S&D faction is expected to secure 135 seats, retaining its status as the second largest bloc.

Liberal Renew Europe is projected to win 82 seats, then followed by the conservative and nationalist ECR  (71 seats), the far-right ID party (62 seats), the Greens (53 seats), and the Left (34 seats).

However, these projections are preliminary. They are based on estimates from 11 member states and pre-election polls conducted in the other 16 member states. The first official results will only become available around 23:00, once the last polling stations close in Italy.

Furthermore, the relative impact of the political groups may yet significantly shift. The projections also indicate that over 100 elected officials are not currently affiliated with any faction.
