A KLM flight bound for Rio de Janeiro on Sunday made a U-turn back to Schipol airport in the Netherlands while flying over Belgium.
The aircraft, a Boeing 777, was roughly 40 minutes into its flight when it had to turn back due to a technical hitch. A company spokesperson emphasised the fact that passenger safety was never at risk.
The plane released its fuel over the North Sea before heading back to Schiphol, the airport it departed from. Affected passengers will be scheduled onto another flight to Rio.
