Four political groups – MR, Les Engagés, Open VLD and CD&V – are forming an alliance for the upcoming municipal elections in Anderlecht, the parties announced in a joint statement on Wednesday.
Notably, the centre-right Les Engagés are already part of a leading majority along with the Socialists and the Greens. They now will join the liberals Open VLD and MR, and the Flemish Christian Democrats CD&V, who are in the opposition. This new alliance aims to revitalise the region and enhance its reputation and appeal, its members expressed in the statement.
The former mayor Gaëtan Van Goidsenhoven (MR), now a Brussels MP, will lead the alliance. He will be supported by Françoise Carlier (MR) and Achille Van Dyck (MR). Fatiha El Ikdimi (Les Engagés) will be the fourth on the list, followed by Alina Benmrah (MR).
Current cabinet member for Les Engagés Julien Milquet will be seventh on the list, put forward by the former mayor of Ganshoren, Pierre Kompany (Les Engagés). The leader of Open VLD, Yago Bastin, will be ninth on the list while Anne Mertens (CD&V) completes the list.
The local elections will take place on 13 October. Non-Belgians (providing they have resided in the country for at least five years) can vote in the municipal elections if they register as voters by 31 July.
