Mohamed Amoura has left Union Saint-Gilloise for Wolfsburg, the two clubs announced on Monday. The transfer deal is said to be worth around €17 million.
The 24-year-old Algerian striker has joined the Bundesliga club with a compulsory purchase option. Having arrived at Union a year ago from Swiss side FC Lugano, Amoura was one of the main architects of the Brussels team's fine season, in which they won the Cup and finished runners-up in the Belgian league.
Becoming a fan favourite throughout the season, the Algerian talisman scored 22 goals and seven assists in 45 games for the club. The Algerian international finished 3rd in the Golden Shoe – Belgian football's most prestigious award – behind Toby Alderweireld and team-mate Cameron Puertas, and 2nd in the Ebony Shoe behind Cercle striker Kevin Denkey.
"I'm proud and happy to be able to play for such a great club in Germany," Amoura told Wolfsburg's website. "In my mind, I've always wanted to take the next steps in my career in the Bundesliga. From that point of view, Wolfsburg is the perfect club for me.
Mohamed Amoura arrived at the Parc Duden on a four-year contract to replace Victor Boniface, who left for Bayer Leverkusen and went on to become Bundesliga champion.
