Belgium has dropped three places, down to sixth, in the FIFA world rankings following an update by the global football federation on Thursday.
The new rankings come after Euro 2024 and the Copa América, with Spain, the Euro champions, rising five places to third spot, trailing only Argentina and France.
Belgium’s Red Devils, managed by Domenico Tedesco, were eliminated in the round of 16 at Euro 2024 by France (0-1). This followed a defeat against Slovakia (0-1), a victory over Romania (2-0) and a draw against Ukraine (0-0) in Group E. The team lost 25.54 points, leaving them with a total of 1772.44. It’s their lowest ranking since 10 August 2017, when they were in ninth place.
Between September 2018 and March 2022, Belgium enjoyed its longest tenure at the top of the FIFA world rankings. The team had previously occupied this spot from November 2015 to March 2016.
Current Copa América champions Argentina hold their top position, followed by France in second place. Euro 2024 champions Spain have advanced to third place.
England, the runners-up at Euro 2024, are in fourth place (+1), with Brazil moving down to fifth place (-1).
Belgium, now sixth, is followed by the Netherlands (7th), Portugal, dropping two places to eighth (-2), Colombia making its top 10 debut (9th, +3), and Italy in tenth. The next update from FIFA is scheduled for 19th September.
