Charleroi Airport (BSCA) restarted Ryanair's operating software on Friday afternoon after it became inaccessible due to a global IT outage.

The software resumed operation smoothly and should be back to full functionality in the following hours, according to a BSCA spokesperson.

Like many airports globally, Charleroi had to deal with minor delays on some flights due to the after-effects of the computer failure.

The situation on Friday afternoon contrasted sharply with the morning's turmoil. With the airline software down, airport staff manually completed check-in operations for 18 flights. This resulted in significant queues and terminal overcrowding before the BSCA switched to an airport-exclusive system.

As a result of the queuing, some passengers missed their flights.

“The number is uncertain but it could be about fifty,” the BSCA spokesperson said.
