Brussels Airport is expecting some 88,000 passengers this Friday, making it not only the busiest day of the year but also since the Covid-19 pandemic, the airport warned on Thursday.

The coming weekend promises to be busy, with school holidays now in full swing and Belgium's construction sector also on annual leave. Brussels Airport expects more than 5 million passengers over the whole summer.

"As this Friday falls in the middle of the summer holiday and the collective construction leave, both the number of arriving and departing passengers is high," the airport said. Some 45,000 departing and 43,000 arriving passengers are expected at the airport on Friday.

On the two busiest days of 2023 (28 and 31 July), Brussels Airport saw 82,000 passengers pass through its doors.

Arrive prepared

For European passport holders travelling outside the Schengen zone, 15 additional automatic gates have been installed. These automatically check identity documents, which should shorten waiting times and make border control more fluid.

As always, the airport advises all holidaymakers to get to the airport on time and to check the rules for hand luggage – particularly for liquids – in advance on the website or in the app for a smooth security screening. Passengers will also find all information about their itinerary in the revamped app.

Additionally, those coming to the airport by car are advised to book a parking space in advance or leave for the airport half an hour earlier.

"If necessary, slightly more remote parking options will be provided by Brussels Airport. Free shuttle services or free buses from De Lijn run back and forth to the terminal throughout the day," Brussels Airport said on its website.
