Team Belgium won another three medals at the Olympic Games in Paris on Friday evening: gold and bronze in the heptathlon and another bronze in taekwondo.

After previously winning gold in Rio de Janeiro (2016) and Tokyo (2021), Belgian athlete Nafi Thiam (29) won her third Olympic gold medal in a row for the heptathlon on Friday evening – making her the first person ever to do so.

Noor Vidts, also competing for Belgium, jumped up from fourth place to bronze in the final run: 800 metres. Together, Thiam and Vidts brought Belgium's medal total to eight.

Barely 15 minutes later, Belgium could add another medal to its total after Sarah Chaari saved herself from a seemingly hopeless situation in her taekwondo (-67 kg) match – the first-ever medal for the country in the sport. In the very last second, Chaari managed to secure bronze and brought Belgium's total number of medals to nine.

Meanwhile, the basketball women lost their semi-final against France: after an extension, the Belgian Cats lost with 81-75. This means that on Sunday, they will be playing the so-called "small final" for bronze against Australia at 11:30.
