Belgium can again enjoy summery weather this weekend, with temperatures around 30°C. The warm days will certainly have an effect on the coast, where 350,000 tourists are expected. Railway operator SNCB is therefore arranging extra trains to the coast.
The weather will remain sunny on Saturday, with maximum temperatures fluctuating between 23°C on the coast and 24-26°C in the rest of the country. Sunday will also be sunny, with temperatures up to 29°C.
As a result, the coast is gearing up for a busy weekend. According to provincial company Westtoer, the Belgian coast is expecting some 350,000 day tourists this weekend. Seaside hotels are already 90% fully booked but are still expecting last-minute bookings due to the good weather.
To accommodate the crowds, SNCB is operating extra trains to the coast on both Saturday and Sunday: 22 extra trains to Blankenberge and Ostend will be running on both days. On Monday and Tuesday as well, eight extra trains will be going to the coast.
Up to 33°C
SNCB advises travellers to consult the route planner, where they can also see how busy trains are expected to be. They are also advised to avoid the busiest times and to take plenty of water. "Travellers might have to wait a little longer in stations due to the crowds."
On the website dekust.be, visitors can use the crowd barometer to see how busy it is per coastal municipality.
The nice weather will continue on Monday, with temperatures up to 33°C across the country and locally even up to 35°C. Towards the end of the day, some thunderstorms are expected.
On Tuesday, clearings and clouds alternate. There will also be showers, locally sometimes with thunderstorms. Compared to Monday, it will be less warm, but maximum temperatures will still hover between 22°C at the sea, 27-28°C in the centre of the country and 29-30°C in the east of the country.
