Temperatures are expected to reach up to 30°C in some places in Belgium on Wednesday, however, the summer holidays will end with overcast weather and a higher chance of rain.
Wednesday will be another sunny day, interspersed with high cloud veils and temperatures between 25°C in the southeast to around 29°C in Brussels, even reaching 30°C locally in the Kempen (northeast of Belgium), the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) confirmed. Temperatures have rarely surpassed 30°C in Belgium this year.
"A high-pressure area over the Baltic States will move into Russia by tomorrow but favourably determines our weather today," the RMI wrote on its website. "A southeasterly and later southerly wind will carry dry and warm continental air over our country."
However, a cold front will slide over Belgium from the west from Wednesday night, bringing more cloud cover. "On Thursday, we enter less warm air at the hands of a westerly to northwesterly wind."
Occasional showers
Thursday will be partly cloudy and remain mostly dry, but an occasional shower cannot be ruled out. Maximum temperatures will drop slightly to 20°C at the sea and 25 to 27°C in the east.
"On Friday, an undulating disturbance may pass over Belgium from France with periods of rain or showers in some areas," the RMI said. Temperatures will remain stable, comparable to Thursdays.
Saturday will again be alternately cloudy with a chance of showers, and slightly warmer temperatures (between 22 and 28 °C). Sunday will bring more of the same, but temperatures will soar again, reaching 29°C inland and in the northeast.
In the longer term, the weather is expected to stay dry most of the time, but slightly cooler – maximum temperatures will sit around 21°C – due to a "north-to-northeast flow".
