A woman's body was found early Saturday morning on l'Esplanade du Dragon in Mons, prompting authorities to initially consider her death suspicious.

The discovery was made around 9h30, and police quickly secured the area, erecting a white tent at the scene, according to Sudinfo.

The esplanade, located behind the Grand'Place and near an underground parking facility, was cordoned off as investigators began their work.

According to the Mons public prosecutor's office, the deceased woman, born in 1978, was known to police for issues related to addiction. While her death was initially treated with caution, officials noted that no visible signs of trauma were found on her body. The prosecutor's office also revealed that she had a history of health problems, including a previous stroke.

Despite the lack of traumatic evidence, an autopsy has been ordered to rule out any possibility of foul play.
