August in Belgium was warmer and sunnier than usual

The month of August was warmer than average, according to Belgium’s Royal Meteorological Institute’s (IRM).

Except for a few days, temperatures in Brussels consistently surpassed historical averages, with the average temperature being 19.8 degrees during the month, compared to a norm of 18.4 degrees.

On 12 August, 35 degrees was recorded in Brussels.

For the first time since January, Brussels saw a sunnier month than usual, with total sunlight duration of 235 hours and 11 minutes, compared the typical 192 hours and 26 minutes.

August also became the eleventh consecutive month with above-average rainfall.

In Brussels, a total of 152.9 mm of rainfall was recorded, compared to the normal 86.5 mm.

The IRM’s climatological network reported the highest daily rainfall on the 13th August in Sivry with 46.5 mm of rain.

Nine thunderstorm days were recorded throughout the month in the country.
