Vehicle registrations in Belgium have fallen this year by 20% compared to the same period last year.

In August the number of newly registered vehicles was 29,333, newly released data from the Federal Public Service Mobility & Transport and the Belgian car federation, Febiac, suggests.

Ultimately, the data reveals a shift in trends; individuals are buying more cars, but corporate purchases are declining. It appears that businesses had already updated their fleets ahead of tax changes imposed in July 2023.

Despite this dip in sales, registrations since the start of the year totalled 324,892, only just over 3% fewer than during the corresponding period the previous year.

A run-down of the most purchased brands remains German-biased, with BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes, and Audi topping the charts. Peugeot completes the top five.
