RTBF makes its first foray into video game production

Belgian broadcaster RTBF is making its first foray into the video gaming world by co-producing '30 Birds,' created by the independent Brussels-based studio Ram Ram Games, in partnership with Franco-German broadcaster ARTE.

The game, due to be out this autumn, combines 2D and 3D adventure gameplay, featuring Persian art and mythology. The game will be available on PC and Nintendo Switch.

"As part of our development strategy, we are investing in video gaming as producers/co-producers, and potentially in the future as publishers,” said Grégory Carette, coordinator of RTBF’s gaming-dedicated media iXPé. “RTBF has contributed 20% to the project.”

Jean-Paul Philippot, General Manager of the RTBF, described the initiative as evidence of how ARTE and RTBF can work together creatively and innovatively.

He said many present-day cultural norms are situated in the digital and interactive universe.

Philipppot also stressed that despite announced budget cuts at RTBF, the project is in line with the broadcaster's public service mission.
