A 66-year-old pedestrian lost his life in Deurne, near Antwerp, after being hit by a car in the early hours of Saturday.
The victim was found seriously injured, lying on the street near Rivierenhof. Astonishingly, there was no sign of a vehicle or driver nearby.
Passersby discovered the man around 07:00 on Ruggeveldlaan.
He was rushed to AZ Monica hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries, according to Antwerp police.
Preliminary investigation confirmed that indeed he was hit by a vehicle. Antwerp police have initiated an investigation into the hit-and-run incident.
