Brussels’ Uber drivers have resolved to continue their "boycott" next week following an organised mass disconnection event last Friday, announced CSC United Freelancers Union on Saturday.
Aiming to raise awareness of drivers’ working conditions and to demand substantial improvements from the company, the strike schedules are set during the following times this week: weekdays between 07:00 – 10:00 and 17:00 – 19:00, along with 21:00 – 03:00 on weekends.
The union selected these time slots to maximise the strike’s impact while respecting users’ needs outside these periods of high demand. CSC United Freelancers is concurrently urging users to support the protest by choosing alternative transport options during these times.
Uber drivers' so-called "disconnecting event" was organised previously on Friday between 08:00 – 12:00.
The drivers are protesting the introduction of a new system, TripRadar, which they claim creates unnecessary competition by assigning multiple drivers to a single job and boosting the company’s commission.
Uber responded by affirming their commitment to ongoing app improvements, thereby enabling drivers to access more potential trips and generate greater revenue.
While confirming the introduction of various app changes, Uber clarified they are based on driver feedback.
Additionally, the private mobility company revealed they are testing variable commission rates, but overall confirmed that they are not increasing the average platform commission, maintaining an average rate of 25% in Brussels.
