Hilde Crevits (CD&V), the outgoing Flemish Welfare Minister has lost both her parents within a week, the politician revealed on Facebook.
Her mother passed away last week, followed by her father who succumbed to cancer, she explained in her post.
"He fought like a lion, but exactly a week after my mother, my father also lost his fight against cancer," she shared. "They couldn’t be without each other, even now… It’s love, but it hurts so much right now."
Earlier in May, Crevits had announced that she would limit her campaign activities due to her mother’s hospitalisation. She expressed her desire to spend as much time as possible with her during that period.
Hilde Crevits is a negotiator for the CD&V in the ongoing Flemish formation talks.
