Two individuals suspected of stealing and reselling hundreds of computers from a Laeken-based company were arrested by Brussels Police in late August. One of the suspects – a former employee of the firm – has now been dismissed.
The company reported the disappearance of four large tablets, 95 laptops, and 306 mini-computers from its stocks. An internal investigation led the police to an employee who allegedly sold the stolen devices on a second-hand website via a middleman, who was already known to authorities for illegal possession of stolen goods.
The suspects' residences were searched at the end of August. The raids yielded €12,550 in cash at the former employee's home, while authorities discovered around 40 computers at the accomplice's residence.
Both suspects were interviewed, with charges of domestic theft for the ex-employee and handling of stolen goods for the middleman. They were released on bail pending a hearing.
