More than 70 activities will be held from 7 to 13 October as part of Mental Health Week in Wallonia, the Mental Health Reference Centre (CRéSaM) announced on Tuesday.

The activities aim to highlight support and care services, encourage intersectoral collaboration, and raise public awareness about the importance of mental health.

A survey by national public health institute Sciensano in March revealed an increase in the prevalence of anxiety and depressive disorders compared to the previous year. The rate of anxiety rose from 18% to 19%, and the rate of depression increased from 15% to 17%, a statistically significant change.

To address the pressing issue, mental health professionals and related sectors, including public social services, universities and associations, will open their doors to the public during this tenth edition of Mental Health Week in Wallonia.

Activities will include digital workshops, exhibitions, walks, conferences, webinars and training sessions, focusing on three themes: 'Hyperconnectivity and Digital Discomfort', 'Youth, Mental Health and Screens', and 'Mental Health Resources in the Digital Era'.

"The connection between mental health and digital technology will be put in the spotlight. Digital issues affect all ages and social backgrounds, and are both an opportunity and a risk," the non-profit noted.

The complete programme for the week is available on the event's website.
