UK opens new visa centre in Brussels

The United Kingdom has opened a new visa centre in Brussels to support tourism, economic, and cultural exchanges, VFS Global, the company responsible for its management, announced on Wednesday.

This opening of the centre is part of a management contract recently concluded between the UK and VFS Global. The company now provides visa assistance services in 142 countries worldwide.

The new centre aims to streamline visa procedures for Belgian residents from non-EU countries visiting the UK, as well as EU and Belgian citizens travelling for work, studies or other activities requiring a visa.

Following Brexit, a Belgian ID card is no longer enough to enter the UK. Since 1 October 2021, an international passport is required for short trips (less than six months). Additionally, a visa is necessary for long stays, work, or study in the UK.

In Spring 2025, the UK will introduce a new requirement for EU citizens: the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), a £10 visa fee (approximately €12) needed to enter the country.

With over 867,000 Belgians visiting the UK in 2023, Belgium ranks among the top ten European countries sending visitors across the Channel, primarily for business, holidays, and studies.
