The inaugural Belgian Transplant Games will take place this weekend in Leuven.
Around 500 transplant recipients, dialysis patients, donors, and supporters will compete for medals across more than ten disciplines.
The event will feature athletics, volleyball, pétanque, cycling, darts, padel, tennis, and swimming. Participants can also join introductory sessions for recreational activities.
The Games will be held at Leuven’s university sports centre. They start this Saturday at 11h00, with the closing ceremony scheduled for Sunday at 16h00.
The event aims to demonstrate that engaging in sports is still possible after a transplant.
In 2027, Leuven will host the World Transplant Games.
