A priest from Kalmthout in Antwerp has been arrested for drug trafficking, linked to an incident earlier this week involving ecstasy, poppers and the death of a British colleague.
The Antwerp Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed on Saturday that the priest has been arrested.
The priest called emergency services late on Thursday night after his colleague felt unwell, but despite resuscitation efforts he could not be revived.
Police, forensic experts, and a medical examiner found traces of drugs on the body, and the investigation suggests that the two men had consumed ecstasy and poppers, and engaged in sexual activity.
The precise cause of death remains undetermined, as the autopsy did not provide conclusive results.
The investigating judge questioned the priest again on Saturday and decided to place him under arrest.
