A cybersecurity attack allowed hackers to access thousands of reports from Belgium's MediCheck, an organisation that deals with medical interventions and check-ups for employees on behalf of employers.

In a statement published on its website on Friday, MediCheck said it was informed of a security breach on 23 September. A subsequent investigation revealed that around 50,000 reports by medical examiners were accessed between June 2023 and September 2024.

The documents included information concerning the results of medical examinations, details of injuries for cases involving work accidents, the names of the employees, the names of examining doctors, and the addresses of their practices. According to MediCheck, the stolen data was leaked on 1 October.

Affected individuals are advised to take precautions such as being suspicious of unsolicited emails or calls asking for personal details, monitoring bank statements, and considering password changes.

MediCheck said it has taken comprehensive measures to mitigate the impact of the data breach and to enhance system security. IT experts have conducted a thorough investigation, and the company continues to work closely with the relevant authorities. Additional security measures have been implemented to protect IT systems in the future.
