Brussels Minister-President Rudi Vervoort has issued a police decree extending the ‘hotspot’ strategy measures, initially implemented last April, for an additional six months.

He announced this extension on Friday at the Brussels Parliament, responding to questions from Mathias Vanden Borne (N-VA) and Benjamin Dalle (CD&V).

Vervoort emphasised that the extension was requested during the latest meeting of the Regional Security Cell, which regularly assesses the strategy.

The relevant authorities are responsible for implementing the decision, and police services must adhere to it.

The Regional Security Council (Cores) defines a ‘hotspot’ as an area where administrative and police efforts are concentrated to restore a calmer security environment for residents and visitors.

Vervoort reiterated his call for federal authorities to intensify their anti-drug efforts by providing the federal police with the necessary resources.

He stressed that combating drug networks of international scale requires the mobilisation of all security levels, including local and federal police as well as the Justice system.
