The Brussels Parliament unanimously approved a resolution on Friday requesting the government to allocate the necessary funds to pay Renolution grants, with only Christen Democratisch en Vlaams (CD&V) legislator Benjamin Dalle abstaining.

Minister-President Rudi Vervoort confirmed that the Government of Brussels, in collaboration with future Francophone coalition partners, has established the procedure for re-launching the grants for 2024.

The Renolution grants were intended to support the renovation of buildings in the Brussels Region. The scheme was so successful that the allocated budget was exhausted by July this year, leading the regional government to stop accepting new grant applications from 16 August.

In response, the Liberals, Socialists, and Les Engagés submitted a resolution requesting the government to resume processing applications for work carried out in 2024 and to ensure that grants are paid by 2025.

They also called for a budget adjustment proposal for 2024 to secure the necessary funds.

Minister-President Vervoort said on Friday morning at the start of the plenary debate that there was a shortfall of €71.8 million needed to be covered to pay for pending grants.

An additional €30 million would be needed for applications submitted after the reopening, according to assessments made by the administrations.

These applications must include a final invoice by 31 December 2024, with some grants being paid in 2025 and accounted for in the 2025 budget.
