The Brussels Midi police zone is investigating a possible shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday at the Saint-Guidon metro station to the north of the municipality of Anderlecht.

Residents near the metro station heard gunshots at around 2:30 on the night of Friday to Saturday. Although no one was found at the scene, footage shows two suspects engaged in a confrontation near the metro stop.

"One suspect appears to pull something from his pocket, possibly a weapon, and sparks are seen shortly after," said Sarah Frederickx, spokesperson for the Brussels Midi police zone. "This suggests a possible shooting."

The exact circumstances remain unclear, and police found no shell casings or other evidence during their initial inspection. They describe the incident as an "attempted shooting" with no injuries reported. Police will revisit the site on Saturday in daylight to gather additional evidence.

The station is not far from Aumale metro station, to the east of the infamous Anderlecht neighbourhood Peterbos, which made headlines earlier this year after being taken over by drug gangs.

The area around the metro station has seen several shooting incidents likely linked to Brussels’ drug wars, with the latest occurring on Thursday. No fewer than five shootings have taken place in the area in less than two weeks. Increased violence near Aumale prompted the Brussels-Capital Region to declare the area a "hotspot" on Wednesday, the 16th in the city and the fourth in Anderlecht.
