All polling stations in Wallonia officially closed at 13:00 this Sunday after opening at 08:00 for a dual election to renew provincial and municipal councils for six years.
Approximately 2.62 million Walloon voters were called to the booths to cast their votes. Unlike Brussels or Flanders, voting in Wallonia was done exclusively using paper ballots: white for local elections and green for provincial elections.
No major incidents were reported in the polling stations in the south of the country.
After the polling stations closed, the ballot boxes will be sealed and sent to various counting centres. Initial results are expected in the late afternoon.
In Flanders, around half of the polling stations also closed at 13:00, specifically those using traditional paper voting. Electronic polling stations in the north will remain open until 15:00.
In the 19 Brussels municipalities, where voting is entirely electronic, polling stations will remain open until 16:00.
In the nine communes of the German-speaking Community, voting will conclude at 15:00.
