Belgian telecommunications company Proximus is partnering with two other Belgian companies to launch drone detection technology, "addressing growing concerns of unauthorised drones compromising the safety of facilities with critical assets."

Proximus has confirmed a strategic partnership with airspace technology company Senhive, and drone services provider SkeyDrone, to launch the drone detection technology to market.

The three Belgian companies will develop a solution to help the likes of airports, prisons, industrial plants, data centres and sports centres to "proactively identify and mitigate potential risks" of drones flying in their airspace.

Using Proximus infrastructure, Senhive's drone detection sensors will be strategically installed on eligible telecom towers, to establish a drone detection network.

Meanwhile, SkeyDrone will take charge of the software and services, to deliver a real-time overview of the airspace, visualise the position of both the drone and the pilot, and detect intrusions by unauthorised drones.

"Along with cyber threats, drones are a growing security concern for organisations nowadays, and we expect this trend to continue in the coming years," said Renaud Tilmans, Enterprise Telco Services & Ops Lead at Proximus.

"At Proximus, we aim to contribute to a sustainable and safe digital society. This partnership with Senhive and SkeyDrone perfectly fits within that ambition, allowing to delight our Enterprise customers with comprehensive and smart security solutions," he said.

Thomas Petracca, CEO of Senhive, said the partnership will allow them to leverage the "extensive telecom tower infrastructure for optimal hardware placement" owned by Proximus, and SkeyDrone's data on authorised and unauthorised drones will give "granular insights for drone threat assessment".

"With this partnership, Proximus, Senhive and SkeyDrone aim to set new standards in the field of drone security. Our goal is to equip authorities and organisations with a robust, efficient, and proactive solution to safeguard local airspace and protect against potential threats," said Hendrik-Jan Van Der Gucht, Managing Director of SkeyDrone.
