A joint operation on Friday by Flemish transport company De Lijn and police in Antwerp's Merksem district resulted in 275 out of 1,126 passengers on buses and trams being fined for fare evasion.
Each of these passengers received a €107 fine for not having a valid ticket.
Police also checked the identities of 54 passengers who either could not or did not want to present their ID cards.
During the operation, five individuals were caught with drugs, and one person was found in possession of a prohibited knife.
Police also detained a man who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Two other individuals were flagged in police databases, and another two received municipal administrative fines for attempting to avoid the checks.
