A few dozen activists from the civil disobedience movement Code Rouge blocked access to the Noordkasteel bridge at the Port of Antwerp on Saturday following a protest at TotalEnergies sites in Wallonia.

The blockade aims to highlight the "record profits, ecological destruction and social decay caused by the French company," the climate activists stated. "We will continue our actions until TotalEnergies' devastating activities cease."

"We need a fair and equitable energy system, run by and for ordinary people, not to enrich major polluters and millionaires," said spokesperson Rudi.

Code Rouge says nearly 1,000 people participated in these demonstrations in Feluy (Hainaut) and Antwerp.

The Antwerp port action has caused minor disruptions to port-related traffic. Police are present to redirect drivers but have not yet intervened at the protest site. The duration of the action remains uncertain.

A separate blockade is also ongoing on Boomsesteenweg, parallel to the A12, towards Antwerp. A similar blockade towards Brussels is possible, though the federal police clarified that the motorway itself is not blocked.
