The first Dutch-speaking primary school in Ixelles is currently under construction.
The Flemish Community Commission has granted a subsidy of €3.65 million for renovation and new construction, according to Flemish Minister for Education in Brussels, Sven Gatz.
In 2019, Minister Gatz, the Mayor of Ixelles at the time, Christos Doulkeridis, and Alderman Els Gossé agreed to establish a new Dutch-speaking primary school in Ixelles with a capacity of 250 places.
The new school is expected to open on 1st September 2026.
It will be able to accommodate all 250 pupils by the start of the 2028 school year.
The total investment is estimated to be around €9 million.
The Flemish Community is financing €1.8 million of these works.
