Belgian police appeal for witnesses after attempted murder in Rotterdam

The police in Rotterdam are appealing for witnesses to identify a suspect involved in an attempted murder in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Early on Tuesday, 5 November 2024, around 04:00, an individual was filmed by CCTV dropped a large concrete slab onto the head of a homeless man sleeping at the Maritime Museum in Lievehaven, Rotterdam.

According to the police, later that morning, around 08:00, the suspect boarded a train at Breda station in the Netherlands heading towards Belgium.

This train stopped at the following stations: Noorderkempen, Antwerp-Central, Antwerp-Berchem, Mechelen, Brussels Airport Zaventem, Brussels-North, Brussels-Central, and Brussels-Midi.

The suspect is described as being between 30 and 40 years old, with dark skin and short-cropped hair.

At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black hooded jacket, dark jeans, and Asics trainers with bright red or orange laces. He was also carrying a large “Eco-bags” shopping bag.

Anyone who recognises this individual or knows of his whereabouts is urged to contact the investigators at avisderecherche@police.belgium.eu or the free number 0800 30 300.

The police warn that the suspect is potentially dangerous and advise people who recognise him not to approach but to contact authorities immediately.
