Pedestrian killed in tram collision in Brussels

A pedestrian has died after being seriously injured in a collision with a tram in the Brussels municipality of Schaerbeek on Saturday evening.

The accident occurred at around 19:00 at the Demolder tram stop, according to the local police Brussels North, which covers Schaerbeek, Evere and Saint-Josse-ten-Noode.

The victim, a 71-year-old man, is believed to have crossed the tram tracks at an unauthorised location, and was struck by a passing tram. He was taken to hospital in a serious condition on Saturday but succumbed to his injuries.

The tram driver tested negative for alcohol and was taken to hospital in shock.
