A student was severely injured following a fire in the Brussels municipality of Etterbeek on Thursday afternoon.
The fire occurred in a VUB student residence on Boulevard du Triomphe in Etterbeek at around 16:30 on Thursday.
Firefighters were called to the scene, where thick smoke was seen billowing from a third-floor window of the building.
"We entered the building from the rear and found a seriously injured student lying on the ground. The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition," said fire brigade spokesperson Walter Derieuw.
The fire in the VUB campus dormitory was quickly brought under control and affected only one apartment. The damage caused by the fire in the student's room was limited.
Common areas were ventilated, and a carbon monoxide check was performed.
