Brussels firefighters were called to a kitchen fire in a first-floor apartment in a four-storey building in Evere at around 17:50 on Saturday evening.
Firefighters arrived to find the fire already well-developed at the rear of the building on Rue de l’Optimisme, and residents on the third floor had to be evacuated.
Fortunately, no one was injured, but water damage caused by the firefighting efforts has left the lower floors of the building uninhabitable.
The gas supply to the building was cut off by Sibelga, making the upper floors temporarily uninhabitable as well.
Brussels-North police and local community services are assisting the displaced residents.
