The new tram in the city of Liège will enter service later than previously planned, not until 15 April 2025, reports the Walloon public transport operator TEC on Thursday.
TEC said in a press release that the Tram'Ardent consortium informed it of the new schedule. Until now, TEC had planned to put the tram into commercial service by 31 January 2025, as agreed during the mediation between TEC and Tram'Ardent.
This date was already three years later than expected. But now, the trial operation will start from February 11, 2025. In the process, the tram will run in real conditions, but without customers. TEC will then be able to put the tram into commercial service from 15 April 2025.
"Although tests with the tram could begin on 31 October 2024, the TEC has been experiencing delays with infrastructure works for several months. Despite measures taken, Tram'Ardent was unable to overcome these delays and fulfil its commitments," said TEC, adding that contractual discussions on the delay will now take place.
