'The Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution' will take place in Brussels on Thursday 28 November.
The Global Alliance is committed to the peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the basis of a two-state solution. The EU's outgoing Foreign Affairs chief Josep Borrell will be present as well as Belgium's outgoing Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib, who is soon to be confirmed as the EU Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management and Equality.
Thursday marks the Alliance's second meeting. The first took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) in September.
The meeting in Brussels will focus mainly on concrete steps in the political, security and accountability fields to make this solution a reality. Belgium has organised the event in partnership with the EU to underline the urgent need for peace in the region.
"The two-state solution is and remains the only realistic path to a lasting peace, not only for Israelis and Palestinians but also for the entire region," Lahbib stated. "The two-state solution is part of the long-term solution. In the short term, we call for a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of the hostages and full respect for international law by all parties."
