King Philippe and Queen Mathilde celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary today.
The couple exchanged vows on 4 December 1999 at Brussels City Hall, followed by a church ceremony at the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula.
The announcement of their engagement was made on 10 September 1999, and Mathilde was officially introduced on 13 September.
In 2001, they welcomed their first child, Elisabeth of Belgium. They now have four children: Elisabeth (23), Gabriel (21), Emmanuel (19), and Eléonore (16). Elisabeth graduated from Lincoln College, University of Oxford earlier this year.
Queen Mathilde, officially Mathilde d’Udekem d’Acoz, established the Princess Mathilde Fund with donations received for their wedding. She is also involved with the United Nations, UNICEF, and the King Baudouin Foundation.

The couple took an oath on 21 July 2013. According to the palace, they will celebrate their silver anniversary privately. Earlier this year, it was announced that a €12.5 coin would be issued in honour of their jubilee.
The coin features a portrait of the couple with the number ’25’ between them. The initiative by Finance Minister Vincent Van Peteghem and the Royal Mint of Belgium aims to thank the royal couple for their unwavering support for the country.
