Eight people suspected of drug trafficking have been arrested by police in the Binche/Anderlues/Lermes zone (Hainaut province). Vehicles and drugs were seized in the major operation, as well as nearly €10,000 in cash.
The Charleroi Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed details of the operation on Friday morning. The operation targeted a criminal organisation supplying and selling drugs, including cocaine, in the Lobbes area.
Around 60 officers from various services of the Binche/Anderlues/Lermes police zone, federal police, Charleroi judicial police, and neighbouring police zones were mobilised.
The investigation into the criminal organisation had been ongoing for several months. Several searches were carried out in Erquelinnes, Lobbes, Charleroi, Thuin, and Châtelet.
The eight suspects were brought before a Charleroi investigating judge. Five suspects were remanded in custody, two were charged and released under conditions, and one was released without charge.
The raids also led to the seizure of five vehicles, nearly 300 grams of cocaine, 650 grams of cannabis, and nearly €10,000.
