A household in Flanders with an average electricity consumption will have to pay much more for electricity next year.

Net tariffs will rise by a third, which comes down to an extra €120, the Flemish energy regulator VREG announced.

The gas bill will also rise due to higher net tariffs, by 6% (€15 extra), next year. The VREG announced the price rises after approving the distribution network tariffs for electricity and natural gas.

These are the tariffs clients pay to bring electricity or natural gas to their homes or businesses. They cover the costs incurred by system operator Fluvius in building and maintaining the distribution grids, as well as the transmission costs that Fluvius pays to high-voltage grid operator Elia.

The sharp rise in 2025 is mainly due to a sharp increase in transmission tariffs, which will increase by 80%.

"Network tariffs are part of the bill you receive from your energy supplier, in addition to the energy cost and a number of charges," said VREG. "Network tariffs differ from one grid operator to another. Each grid area is slightly different and each grid operator has its own (investment) policy."

Therefore, costs differ between network operators and network tariffs also differ depending on the network area in which clients live.

How much will an average household in Flanders pay for net tariffs in 2025?

A household with an electricity consumption of 3,500 kWh per year and an average monthly peak of 4.26 kW will pay an average of €483 (including VAT) net tariffs in 2025. That is €120 or 33% more than in 2024.

A household with a natural gas consumption of 17,000 kWh per year will pay €260 (including VAT) in 2025. That is €15 or 6% more than in 2024.
