Trade unions are planning a national demonstration on 13 February to call for the "strengthening of public services," according to a statement from the socialist union FGTB on Tuesday.

The protest is part of a series of actions against the measures of the Arizona coalition (MR, Les Engagés, N-VA, CD&V, Vooruit), currently negotiating the formation of a new Federal Government.

In addition to a previously announced pension-related action on 13 January, the trade unions will organise a national demonstration one month later. The location has not yet been confirmed. FGTB President Thierry Bodson hinted at this action last Friday, mentioning the possibility of a national strike or demonstration in early 2025 "if nothing changes."

Last Friday, the unions held a gathering at Place Poelaert in Brussels to contest the proposed measures by the Arizona coalition.

According to the unions, nearly 10,000 people attended the event. They have confirmed their intention to organise a specific action on the 13th of every month as long as the project proposed by the federal negotiators remains unchanged.
