Two suspects have been arrested as part of the investigation into a fatal stabbing in Ostend, according to the West Flanders public prosecutor's office in Bruges on Thursday.
On Tuesday evening, a 25-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen and died during the night.
A 30-year-old man from Ostend has meanwhile been placed under arrest for murder by an examining magistrate. Another man, aged 34, is currently being questioned by the police.
The victim was stabbed in the abdomen at around 9pm near the Ostend casino.
According to initial reports, the 25-year-old man entered a night shop on the Van Iseghemlaan and asked for help. He was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The police laboratory was sent to the scene to search for clues. The public prosecutor's office has also appointed a forensic pathologist and an investigating judge.
On Wednesday morning, a 30-year-old man from Ostend was arrested by the police. He is suspected of having escorted the person who struck the fatal blow to the scene of the crime.
He claims not to have been aware of the latter's plans. According to the public prosecutor, the two men left the scene together in a car after the attack. The second suspect, who allegedly stabbed the victim, was arrested late on Wednesday afternoon.
