Kidnapping in Brussels ends in serious accident in Bruges after police chase

A serious traffic accident occurred during a police chase in Bruges on Friday. The chase started in the Brussels municipality of Forest after a suspected kidnapping, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office said.

The five occupants of the getaway vehicle (four men and a woman) were injured in the accident, but their lives are not in danger. The men have been deprived of their liberty.

"This morning, the police intervened after events that could be linked to a kidnapping," said Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office spokesperson Martin François. "A chase began in the Brussels municipality of Forest and continued on the motorway. The suspect vehicle finally crashed on the N31 near Zeebrugge."

"The occupants, four suspects and a victim, were injured in the accident, but their lives are not considered to be in danger," he added. "The four suspects have been deprived of their liberty."

The investigation is continuing to determine the precise circumstances of these events. In the interest of the investigation, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office will not comment further.
