The Tomorrowland festival will be switching completely to reusable cups for its next edition, Flemish Environment Minister Jo Brouns (CD&V) told the regional parliament on Tuesday.

Tomorrowland had to pay out €727,000 in December because it did not use reusable cups last summer. Unlike other festivals, Tomorrowland had decided not to switch completely to reusable cups, as required by law.

The festival explained that it wanted to use up its stock of disposable cups first, and pointed out that reusable cups posed practical problems.

At its next edition, the festival will comply fully with the regulations, without any adjustments. "My administration has carried out an assessment of the legislation and the availability of cups and washing facilities," said Minister Brouns.

"This has shown that the market for suppliers of cups and washing facilities has evolved considerably. I therefore see no need to make any adjustments at the moment," he added.
